"There is a voice that has no word...listen." -- Rumi
Patti Coughlin, Licensed Massage Therapist
In 1980, I began studying health in college hoping to work in the immerging field of complimentary and alternative medicine. After twenty years of working in western (allopathic) medicine, I had no idea that my original objective would be realized when I discovered the benefits of massage therapy.
Having worked with athletes, cardiovascular patients and everyone in between, I started my professional career as a clinical research manager after earning a Master's Degree in Exercise Physiology. Working for UCLA and surrounding community hospitals, my job dealt with the effect of stress on the body.
After moving to the Conejo Valley in 2000, I sought a more peaceful and flexible way to work. I decided to enroll in massage school quite by accident. Receiving my first massage, I was struck by the power of reconnecting to my own mind/body energy and wanted to learn more. I soon began studying for the initial 1000 hours required to obtain a license in massage therapy.
My experience in medicine, complimented by my technical proficiency in bodywork gives me the ability to understand and intuitively address clients' needs in a holistic manner. My approach to the art of massage matches what I truly believe – relaxing the body allows the individual to reconnect with their "true" self and renew the spirit. This is accomplished by reaching all the senses--touch, sight, sound, smell, and even taste. I am continuing to study bodywork and building my own practice and have enjoyed teaching massage, managing a spa, and I have served as a spokesperson for an organic skincare line. I have also aligned my practice with other like-minded, skilled bodyworkers to offer an unparalleled, integrity-based, service. |
